Hybrid Scramble Format & Rules
A scramble allows teammates to play the course in a best ball format. The Irvine Classic allows three and four-player scrambles.
The team members all tee off from the individually appropriate tee-box position with the team selecting the best ball for their second shot.
After the second shot (or placement on the green), whichever occurs first, each golfer plays only their own ball through the end of the hole.
Team scoring: The sum of each players score is added on each hole, then divided by the number of players in the group at the end of tournament play.
Individual scoring: This year, we are recording individual scores (1) in order to determine an overall Men’s and Women’s winner and (2) so that golfers can invite friends and colleagues to make fundraising pledges corresponding to golfers’ scores (ex: $10 for each stroke under par).
USGA rules apply for hazards, bunkers, and other similar regulations on the course.
Hole-in-One Contest Rules
The Irvine Classic typically features four hole-in-one contests with prizes ranging from $500 cash to elite golf experiences such as a foursome and lodging at Augusta National. Look forward to trying your luck at Aliso Viejo Country Club.
Individual Scoring: Mark a 1 for your own score.
Team Scoring: The other members of your team complete the hole according to scramble rules, playing the best ball among remaining players for stroke #2.
Long Drive for Heroes
As the name implies, the goal of a longest drive contest is to hit the longest and straightest drive where the ball comes to rest in the fairway. Funds raised for programs such as 211 Marine Adoption Committee, Peace for Warriors and WHW.
Closest to the Pin
A “Closest to the Pin” contest is a type of game that is a staple of charity tournaments and amateur golf tournaments. We’ve designated an incredible par-3 hole for this contest.
